Badge

As was the done thing at the time, Gags had a band name logo design created for the release of Death In Buzzards’ Gulch. ‘We hated it,’ confides Gerry. ‘It had a bound woman wearing a gag – talk about literal.’

Brendan remembers badges with the logo being produced – ‘It was hardly PC, but we didn’t stop to think about that. It was probably inspired by The Rolling Stones’ Black and Blue cover.’

A more definitive – and basic – Gags logo emerged with the release of Homework in 1984. ‘It was born out of necessity when the cover was being designed,’ says John. ‘I’d recently discovered Letraset while working at Marvel Comics and probably borrowed it from Hulk or some other superhero. It was a quick and dirty solution. Just about right for the band.’
